Pool Facts

Our Pool is 25 yards long and has six lanes.  You must swim 72 lengths to swim one mile.  The water is 3.5 feet deep at each end and six feet deep in the center.  The water temperature is maintained between  82-86 degrees F.  The pool opens at 6 a.m. Monday-Friday, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  The pool closes 15 minutes before the YMCA to a allow lifeguards time to maintain equipment and water quality.

The Pool Rules

 1.  DO NOT SWIM ALONE!

 2.  No running or pushing

 3.  No street shoes allowed on pool deck or any wet areas.

 4.  Do not jump backwards, perform back dives or somersaults from    the side.

 5.  No boisterous or rough play.

 6.  No food, drink, gum, or tobacco will be allowed in the area.          

 7.  Glass, soap, lotion, or other material which might create hazardous

      conditions or interfere with efficient operation of the swimming pool shall not be permitted in or around the pool area.

 8. Spitting, spouting of water, blowing the nose, or otherwise introducing contaminants into the pool, is not permitted.

 9.  Persons with open sores or rashes are not permitted in the pool without authorization of Aquatics Director who will verify physician’s letter of reassurance regarding contagiousness. No bandages allowed in pool.

10. All apparel worn in the pool shall be clean and sanitary. ONLY appropriate swimsuits will be permitted.

11. Swimsuits are not permitted outside of the pool and locker room areas.

12.  Kickboards may be used only during lap swim or lessons or at the lifeguard’s discretion.

13.  No hanging on the lane lines.

14.  No diving.

15.  Non-swimmers are asked  to stay in shallow area.  Guards may ask swimmers to swim 25 yards to decide if one is safe to swim in deep water.

16.  For safety reasons, please inform lifeguards and instructors of medical problems such as diabetes, heart problems, epilepsy or any other physical or emotional problems.

17.  Children 8 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult.

18.  Always read and follow rules posted in pool area.

19. Be courteOUS– if you enter the pool when a class is in progress, enter on the other end of the pool away from the class and do not interact with members while they are in class.

Lap Swimming Rules

Every lane is subject to multi-person use.
All kickboards and pull-buoys must be returned after use.

Y Adventure Guides and Princesses! An informational "Dads Only" one-hour meeting will be held Monday, September 13th at 5:30 - all fathers with children from 5-9 years old are invited to attend including members and non-members. For questions or more information call Woody or Julia.

Girls on the Run of Vance County - www.gotrvance.org A life-changing, non-profit prevention program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is “to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living”. The 24 lesson Girls on the Run curriculum combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions. All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community. Contact Julia Langston at the YMCA for more info.
